Lorna Mcnee
Artwork number 7
Lorna McNee's career kicked off with a bold move at 20 when she asked legendary chef Andrew Fairlie for a job. Fifteen years later, she has a Michelin star and a Great British Menu title.
Growing up in Forres, Scotland, Lorna wanted to be a photographer but ended up washing dishes in a local restaurant. When she didn’t get into photography school, the head chef suggested she try cooking. Enrolling in a cookery course, she found her passion.
Inspired by Gordon Ramsay, Lorna spent two weeks in his kitchen at Claridge’s but found London too hectic. Back in Scotland, she was amazed by a meal at Restaurant Andrew Fairlie and asked Fairlie for a job during dinner.
After 12 years at Gleneagles, and winning Great British Menu, she became head chef at Glasgow's Cail Bruich in 2020. Despite the pandemic, Lorna earned her first Michelin star in 2022. Now, she’s Glasgow’s culinary star, dedicated to Scottish produce and modern flair.
